Warning sign 1 of 3
A call you were not expecting
A familiar name or phone number does not prove who is calling.
Scammers can make a call look as though it comes from your bank.
Check who is calling before sharing any information.
Warning sign 2 of 3
Being rushed or frightened
Pressure to act quickly makes it harder to stop and check whether the caller is telling the truth.
You can end the call. You do not have to act immediately.
Warning sign 3 of 3
Being told to use a “safe account”
Your bank will never ask you to transfer money to a “safe account”.
That account could belong to the scammer.
Hang up and contact your bank yourself.
Remember these three steps
Stop, hang up and check
- End the call. You do not have to follow the caller’s instructions.
- Wait five minutes before calling back.
- Use the number on your bank card. Do not use a number the caller gives you.
